When a crown is useful
Crowns help when a tooth is cracked, has a very large filling, or has had root canal treatment. They also restore teeth that are too weak for another filling alone.
What treatment involves
We prepare the tooth, take records for the laboratory or chairside work, and fit a temporary cover if needed. At the next visit we check the bite and cement the crown. You should say if the bite feels high.
Looking after a crown
Brush and floss around the edge where the crown meets the gum. Avoid cracking hard objects such as bones or bottle tops. Attend regular check-ups so we can watch the seal and the gum.
