Signs you may need a filling
Sensitivity to sweet or cold, a visible hole, food trapping, or a dark spot can mean decay. Some cavities only show on examination. Early treatment is simpler than waiting until the nerve is involved.
What happens during treatment
We numb the tooth if needed, remove decay, and place the filling. Tooth-coloured materials are used where they will last and look natural. You can usually eat carefully once the numbness has worn off.
Looking after a new filling
Avoid very hard food on that side for the rest of the day if we advise it. Keep brushing and flossing. If your bite feels high, come back so we can adjust it.
